Joel Thomas

Sous Chef

Joel has been an integral part of Field & Main’s culinary team since he began his tenure in 2021. He was promoted to the role of Sous Chef in 2023 after demonstrating his skills on each station, becoming a leader amongst his peers, and consistently contributing creative and thoughtful dishes to the Field & Main menu. 

Joel has an obvious passion for the craft and a true dedication to hospitality, enjoying the high-pressured nature of service combined with opportunity to share his artistry and creativity. He is inspired to create dishes using ingredients that celebrate what nature offers and loves seeing the result as guests enjoy what he has created. 

In his youth, Joel was a self-proclaimed military brat living in 5 different states before finishing high school in Manassas. He watched cooking shows as youngster which ignited an interest in the culinary arts. He was officially bitten by the culinary bug and committed to this path after working as a dishwasher at a local restaurant which lead to a formative experience at Trummers in Clifton, Virginia. 

In his free time Joel loves goofing and gabbing and being a mild nuisance to his roommates. He enjoys going out to dinner with friends, loves to read, and hike in our beautiful Virginia countryside.
